From Fatness to Fitness

That’s right, I’m still alive! Hi! It’s been a while. Let’s catch up, shall we?

I weighed myself in the office gym during the first day of work. And I was horrified to see my weight! (172.7lbs or 78.5kg) I’d gone past 150lbs without realizing it. Just 2 years ago, I was at 145lbs and targeting my “running” weight of 135lbs. So seeing my current weight was like a major punch to the face.

I’ve always been a heavy person, and I’ve never aspired to be the super slim (or “sexy”) woman society the media thinks is ideal. I’m all for being happy with the skin you’re in. But I wasn’t happy with the skin I was in coz I would never fit in the pretty dresses in the department store. And I wanted those dresses!

So when I noticed that my tummy was bulging out a bit more than usual and that blouses were getting snug, I knew something was up. It’s actually the reason that I thought of weighing myself at the start of 2017. And having sore feet and ankles after walking around a mall was alarming too.

Well I wasn’t going to let this pass. I had to do something about it. So I decided to watch my food intake (read: limiting my calorie intake). At first I would write down everything I consumed, but then I found an app that tracked my food AND calories (Lose It!).

I also tried going to the office gym. I only went twice in January, and it was to just use the elliptical. But in that one month (January 3rd – February 3rd), I’d lost around 6lbs! Diet really is a big factor to getting, and staying, fit!

Then in February I started hitting the gym (Kinetix Lab). I train 3x a week with my personal trainer, and on Thursdays I practice yoga. In June I plan on taking swimming lessons on weekends. Basically I’ll be active every day except Tuesday. Yay!

I hope I don’t burn out or something. But seeing the progress, I’m still quite motivated. Kinetix Lab focuses on strength training so I’ve been lifting mostly (with the weekly circuit). I’m glad it isn’t just cardio and annoying ab exercises. Now I’m not too particular about my weight (though being lighter would be better since I could probably get back into running). My focus now is on getting stronger.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering how much I weigh now, I’m at 147.4lbs or 67kg (more if I’ve had a heavy meal, haha). 🙂


Back to The Hill

Visited the ol’ Alma Mater with the BFF for lunch today. Alas, we forgot that there were no classes for the college-level so our old haunts were closed. While we were walking around, I couldn’t help but be so nostalgic. If I could, I’d definitely go back to college. Good times, good times.

One of these days, I want to visit there with my friends and just swap stories of our college days. Ironically, I think I spent more time with my org friends than I did with my BFF back then. Friendship is a strange and wonderful thing.

Hello, it’s me (…again)

Yep, another post. I didn’t like the taste of negativity that was left after I published my last post so here’s something lighter.

I have been waiting patiently for Pokemon Go and TBH it’s driving me mad! Actually, I was even considering hunting for a Game Boy Advanced SP or any other Game Boy model that can play the old cartridges. I have a Red Version that is sitting quietly in my desk drawing waiting for my return. It beckons…

You’d think that with all the comics that I’ve purchased from Comixology or the audiobooks from Audible that I’d have enough things to keep me occupied until Pokemon Go arrives. Well, I do have enough things to keep me occupied. The problem is, I just really gotta (Pokemon) Go and catch ’em all! (that was a really lame attempt at wit/humor and I apologize)

I recently bought a smaller powerbank (or what other people in the world call a “battery pack”) for days when I go to the mall and don’t need to lug around my 13,000mAh unit. It’s the size of a pack of Mentos gum (so handy!). But I’m pretty sure I’ll use my bigger one when I play Pokemon Go. HAHA.

The stock market’s been doing pretty good. I watched a documentary some time ago on YouTube about young rich kids (that actually earned their fortune as opposed to mooching off their parents) and one of them got rich by trading in the stock market. I don’t plan on trading full-time (since that a risk I’m not prepared for), but eventually when my profits are a good deal more than the amount I invested initially, I may play around a bit. Would becoming a full-time Pokemon trainer be possible if I got really good at trading stocks?? Hmmm… Important life question right there.

I feel like there are a lot of things I’ve forgotten to update you guys about. Like how I’ve ditched wearing jeans because OMG my waistline ballooned. My mom introduced me to the wonderful world of leggings/slacks (should they be called ‘sleggings’? ). They look like slacks, but they’re stretchy like leggings. I love them sooooo much. But they don’t really serve as motivators to get back into shape (my jeans motivated me to keep my belly in check by not being wearable after eating…).

Sometimes I’m tempted to use my YouTube channel to publish mini vlog entries, but then I remember that I don’t like showing my face and that I can’t go on random hiatuses like I can with this blog. HAH! Anyway, I think I’ve got the negativity out of my system now. Is Pokemon Go out where you live? Or are you waiting like I am? Leave a comment in the comments section. To hell in a hand basket

It’s been a bit more than 2 months since my last post, and the world has gotten exponentially closer to hell. There are people dying left and right (all over the world, I’m not focusing on a particular country), the amount of uninformed/ignorant/bigoted/STUPID comments on multimedia posts is still at a staggering high, and people are focusing on such petty things instead of using all their energies in the things that actually matter in the long run.

It just makes my heart hurt so much. It’s enough to make an optimist jaded. And I like to think that I’m a healthy mix of optimist and realist.

Do I have any lighter topics to share? Hmm… Maybe not. I’ll try to think of something and post later today. Tell me what you guys are feeling now. How’s your heart? How’s your spirit?

War of the Five Kings

Elections are going to be held on Monday here in the Philippines. I for one am quite excited because it means that I can visit my Facebook timeline without seeing a politics-related post. They’re getting tiring.

What makes them tiring is the lack of intellectual discourse in the comments. This election period has degraded into a circus (and not a very fun one at that). There are people who have become mindless fanatics. It’s sickening to some extent. These people are the virtual equivalent of a lynch mob.

I am genuinely concerned that the wrong person may be elected this year. 😦

As for the land across the sea, I’m really hoping Sanders is elected.

Chicken or the Egg?

Statement A: I don’t go to malls in order to keep my spending in check.
Statement B: I spend like crazy in malls because I rarely go to them.

It is a vicious cycle. So I mentioned in my previous post that I went with the BFF to support her during her aquathlon. Since that was early morning, we had the rest of the day free. We decided to watch a movie (Captain America: Civil War) and go shopping (since she needed to buy a bag to use for her upcoming trip to Japan).

Needless to say, she bought just what she needed. No more, no less. I, on the other hand, wound up buying a JanSport tote bag (because it had a suede bottom and it was PURPLE), a backpack from Herschel (which is also where the BFF bought her backpack), and headphones (coz I needed to replace the one I use at the office for conference calls).

To be fair, the headphones were a necessity since my old ones were already deteriorating. And the backpack addresses my need for a bag that can serve as a “mom bag”.

What is a “mom bag”? Essentially, it’s any bag that you can carry all the necessities in. For me, besides money and my phone, necessities consist of:

  1. Water (c/o my Klean Kanteen)
  2. Moist towelettes
  3. Tissue
  4. Alcohol (in a small spritz bottle)
  5. Foldable umbrella
  6. Fan
  7. Med kit (paracetamol, antihistamine, plasters, etc)
  8. Girly kit (mirror, balm, creme, comb, floss, gum, mint, etc)
  9. Canvas tote bag (to put my purchases or other things in)

As you can tell, a tote bag is not ideal in bringing all these things coz it is hell to find things if they’re all in one compartment. Plus, it’s really bad for the spine to have that much weight on just one shoulder. Hence, the backpack.


I have no control. >_<

Never Gonna Leave This Bed

Last Saturday I slept over at my best friend’s house so I could support her during her aquathlon the following morning. If you’re wondering why I have to sleepover, the answer is pretty simple. When I’m at home (more specifically, in my bed), I refuse to leave it. And because the aquathlon was early in the morning and quite a distance from where I live, the only way I’d be able to go was to go with the BFF.

And you know what greeted me when I returned home? A new queen-sized bed in my bedroom. Yup, my mom decided to replace my twin size bed without telling me first. To be fair though, she told me that she was planning on doing it for the longest time. I just didn’t expect that she’d actually do it without prior notice.

How does she expect me to get out of the house (or even just the bed) now??? Help.
